Youth
Dance with Touchdown Dance for anyone from 3 - 25 years old. Touchdown
Dance has a reputation for its work in schools, and youth services.
We have worked across main stream and special education, from Early
Years to Secondary school as well as Performing Arts Schools, Colleges,
and University courses. We also work on projects with organisations
such as the RNIB, Henshaws, SENSE and CAPE to deliver work to young
people in education, health and leisure settings. In 2002 our Motiv8
project went out to schools in Greater Manchester with great effect.
"Thank
you for the dance workshop you did last year. Our children, particularly
our boys were enthralled by the dance lessons and have since become
most enthusiastic about music and movement."
Skills
"I
really, really enjoyed the class particularly the group dance we
made."
STOP PRESS!! NEW TO 2005:
Youth Group, "Co-motion" In November 2005 we are launching a youth group at Waterside Arts Centre, our base in Sale. We launch on November 5th and continue on a weekly basis.for 10 sessions as a pilot project. Co-motion is open to young disabled and non-disabled dancers as a place to learn and have fun making dance together. We do intend to make performances with those who wish to. Please call the office on 0161 912 5760 for details.
Some key characteristics
Skills
"I really, really enjoyed the class particularly the group dance we made."
We will bring work that engages the young people in movement and dance. We start with exercises and patterns that waken up co-ordination and spatial awareness as well as collaborative learning skills. The methods cover a wide range of skills to remain accessible and adaptable and to be inclusive.
Fusion of Forms
"I didn't know I could dance like that, that dance can be like that."
Each session involves a shift in self-perception as the dancer's experience takes them away from PURE forms towards new forms, towards a rich variety of dance language; including contemporary and physical dance forms, gymnastics, martial arts and expressive dance styles. Contact Improvisation involves working in pairs to create a dance through physical contact, including working close to the floor, on all fours, on "bridges", to high aerial lifts, catching and falling.
Age Appropriate
"Please come back again and do some training for our teachers."
In all cases we bring in skills appropriate to the age and mobility of the group and require pre-planned meetings in order to ensure that we all know what is expected. If all this is in place we can then evaluate effectively, as feedback is fundamental to our working relationships and to our quality assurance.
Performance Groups
"It was great, you had so many ideas!"
Workshops with young people can be connected to a performance opportunity whether in the school or hosting organisation, or as part of a project in a venue/dance agency. Please see the workshop section for more information or contact us with your ideas. We respond to invitations for projects and collaborations as well as to simple one-off taster sessions. We welcome projects involving cross-art and new media collaborations along with dance based ones.
