A Jam is an opportunity for people to travel from other parts of the country to dance Contact Improvisation. The weekend usually entails an introductory session to bring everyone together and then the Jam opens up in which the participants choose freely to dance together.

The initiation of the dancing is simply to start moving in the space and someone will connect with you and the contact dance happens. More informal group dancing happens when more than two people dance together, so that several people are connecting in contact or dancing in close proximity with each other, with a sense of synergy.

Jams are an ideal context to get away from a formal teaching situation into an open learning situation.
